Overview

Kimberley Nature Park events are free, open to all, and guided by knowledgeable volunteers.

Our Events Committee organizes and publishes an annual schedule of guided outings in the park. These outings include recreational hikes, nature walks and beginner bicycle rides led by KNPS volunteers a couple of times each month from early May to the end of October.

The Freewheelers Bike Club leads group mountain bike rides on Wednesday evenings in summer, often using trails in the park.

A variety of organizations also use the park from time to time for large group events. Round the Mountain Festival, Black Spur Ultra marathon race, Julyfest running race, and Kootenay Rockies Enduro bike race have all used the trails in the park with permission from the Kimberley Nature Park Society (KNPS). These events are included in the schedule posted each spring.

Participants in KNPS events (and parents or guardians of children under 19 years) are asked to sign a waiver of liability. To make the most of your experience, please take note of the following recommendations:

  • Weather can be variable so bring a sweater, hat and rain gear

  • The duration of each event is estimated, but the actual times may vary

  • Few trails are flat – expect every route to have up and down sections

  • Pack food, water and other useful items such as a field guide, binoculars, notebook and pencil

  • Bring a Kimberley Nature Park Trail Guide (available at many Kimberley retail outlets, the Tourist Information Centre in the Platzl parking lot, and Riverside Campground)

  • Wear bear spray, and carry a whistle

  • Wear sturdy footwear

  • Well-socialized dogs that don't chase wildlife or interfere with others' enjoyment are welcome

  • Please leash your dog in residential areas, and pick up your dog's poop on trails in the park

  • When using the Higgins St. entrance, please park a block or two away to avoid inconveniencing residents who live near the entrance
